FABIO GURJÃO

AN EXPLOSION OF COLOURS IN A GRAPHIC AND ABSTRACT ART

Fabio likes to describe himself as boutique punk. He is an artist, illustrator and designer who graduated with a Master’s Degree in Fashion from Central Saint Martins in London. His work started with thematic collages using acrylic vinyls and stickers inspired by his trips to London or New York.

The base of his art is handicraft, which is then explored in different media using several styles and techniques to produce garments, design objects, tie dye, silkscreen and create films among others. His prints are inspired by Brazilian concretism mixed with a chaos of colours. He can travel easily from the fashion to the arts worlds using several platforms to juxtapose organic and geometric patterns.

The graphic artworks can be seen in prints made for some fashion brands as well as Fkawallys, his own brand of customized vintage outfits. He has also collaborated on editorials for Vogue Japan, Hermès catalogues and the Brazilians FFW MAG, Revista da Folha and 2Fanzine.

His original and fresh touches propose a new look to the classic Brazilian forms from the 60’s and 70’s, inspired by Oscar Niemeyer, Lygia Clark and Hélio Oiticica that shaped his style since his birth in Brasilia, the city envisoned by Niemeyer.
